FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I have
anything to say about what studies my doctor recommends?
This is an important question to every patient, particularly
as we are all aware that patients may not be receiving the rights in the
decision making process about their care that they deserve. Our
congress even now is planning federal laws that will require healthcare
givers to inform patients of their rights.
Can I
choose who performs my radiology studies?
Any patient can choose where and who performs their radiology
studies. However, your insurance or HMO may not pay for part or
all of the fee, but if you are willing to pay any co-pay difference you
have the right to choose who you wish for these and any medical service.
What can I
do if I am unhappy about the quality of service or treatment I received
while having a radiology procedure?
You have many choices. The easiest and best
choice is contact the Medical Director for the group or department where
the service was performed. He or she will be more than glad to
help. Information about patient problems is one of the very best
ways a group or hospital can improve patient care. If you have had
a problem with TRA please contact Dr. Tom White in the Department of
Radiology at St. Johns Hospital at 918-744-2171. Also at the
bottom of this page are some other web sites that may be helpful.
Can I get
copies of the radiology study?
Absolutely! The report of the results of
the radiology study is yours and you have a right to a copy if you
desire. It does not require a request by the doctor who ordered
the study, you or your insurance company paid for the study and you may,
for any reason, ask for a copy of the report. Some facilities may
charge a small fee for reproducing the copy.
Although the films obtained for the study are the
property of the hospital or facility that performed the study, you have
the right to obtain a copy or borrow the study. However, you may
be required to pay for the cost of the copy film. Copies of some
studies may use as many as 10 to 20 sheets of film and copying may be
expensive.
